Romantic Sayn - Historic Foundry

"Sayner Huette" - historic foundry
The impressive hall of the Sayn foundry was erected in the early 19th century according to plans by Karl Ludwig Althans, and is considered one of Germany's most important industrial monuments.

Constructed entirely from cast-iron and glass, it is designed in the shape of a three-naved basilica. Very remarkable are the cast-iron cranes inside which can be revolved around 360 degrees - supposedly the first of their kind. The mighty production hall now stands empty and shall hopefully be converted into a cultural center soon.

More information about Sayn's cast-iron artisanry can be obtained at the museum of ornamental cast-iron, located in the Sayn Palace.
