Romantic Sayn - The Roman Wall
 |
| The roman wall |
| |
Limes, a wall erected by the Romans in the first century A. D. to protect the Roman empire from the Germanic tribes, passed by the hilltops directly above Sayn. At the beginning of this century, a typical Roman watchtower was reconstructed on the mount of the Pulverberg. This tower now is a popular goal for hikers, wandering about in the vast network of excellent walking paths in the outskirts of the Westerwald.
In 2006 the Limes was declared by UNESCO as a world heritage site.
