32: Saint Petersburg

It is back to Russia once again. In this room, you will encounter a large-format print of a ball scene in Saint Petersburg, painted by Adolf Ladurner. In the center, it shows Prince Louis with his first wife Stephanie (dressed in pink) talking to Tsar Nicholas I (from behind) and Tsarina Alexandra, on the far left Grand Duke Michael and on the far right Field Marshal Peter (from behind).

“Unlike Nicholas, his brother and predecessor Tsar Alexander I was quite liberal and always well-disposed towards our family,” says Prince Alexander.

Left and right of the display case on your right you find portraits of Louis’ first wife Stephanie, the heiress of the huge Radziwill fortune, and of Leonilla, his second wife. Both portraits are recent copies of well-known paintings from Saint Petersburg. Above, portraits of their mothers.
